Disclosure Policy
As a new member of the blogging community, I advocate affiliate and WOM disclosure. This policy is valid from 12 March 2009.
hippie dippie bébé is a personal blog written and edited by me. I’m a stay-at-home mama and enjoy dedicating a few hours a week away from my two kids to share news, insights and stories with the community. To support my efforts, this blog will accept forms of cash advertising or other forms of compensation.
Compensation received will never influence the content, topics or posts made in this blog. All explicit recommendations and opinions are based upon my own personal experience and preferences. As an ethical mama, it is high in my list of priorities to never lead another astray for the sake of profit, in any shape or form.
I write the post as I envision it in my noggin’, and add links as an afterthought, not the other way around.
The following are typical forms of advertising on blogs, content websites, and news portals:
Banner Advertising and Contextual Link Units: Banners and contextual advertising on hippie dippie bébé may be linked to paid advertisers. AdSense link units will bear the “Ads by Google” insignia. In cases where banners do not directly include the words “Advertisement” or “Advertise,” I rely on this disclosure, as well as public knowledge that the majority of banners online, including those on this site, are served by advertising and affiliate networks.
Affiliate Linking: Links are provided within the content of certain posts to affiliate partners of hippie dippie bébé which provide further product information and the ability to purchase related products online, such as the ability to read customer reviews and purchase books through Amazon.com. Through these partnerships, I am compensated a small percentage of sales (typically 4-7%) for the trouble I took to include a link in my recommendation.
These links function in much the same way traditional magazine advertising functions, in that the budget for the advertising comes from the advertisers, not from the readers.
The difference here is that the content provided here on hippie dippie bébé, unlike a magazine, is always free! When something looks interesting or relevant, by clicking on affiliate links and banners, you open up the possibility that I receive some compensation for the hard work I put into researching and documenting the information I share here.
Affiliate linking is an extremely common practice in the blogging community, though not all publishers write about it as openly. In fact, unlike some bloggers I make no attempt to hide the nature of these links with cloaking, etc. All such links on hippie dippie bébé are clearly labeled with the term “(aff)”.
This site does not participate in any form of link cloaking.
Although revealing affiliate links openly is not a common practice, I do it because I believe in journalistic integrity.
In some cases, I will include an affiliate link for a particular brand which I have not myself used, or for a particular seller from whom I have not specifically purchased. For example, I may have used a certain type of product but purchased it from a seller in my local town, and not online. I may provide a link to an internet seller as a way to connect those who do not have the luxury of a local health food store with those who sell health foods online. In these cases I will not provide opinion or recommendation as to the qualities of that particular brand or seller.
I will never recommend a course of action (”you should try…”) or provide an opinion on a particular product, brand or seller (”it’s a great solution to…”) unless I am able to do so from actual personal experience.
No Sponsored Posts: hippie dippie bébé does not currently engage in sponsored posting The subject matter, views and opinions expressed on this blog are purely my own, based on my true personal experiences and bias. I am not compensated to provide opinion on products, services, or websites. If I claim to have knowledge on a certain topic or product or service area, I will only endorse products or services that I believe, based on my experience, are worthy of such endorsement. Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer or provider.
