Blog Find: Funky Food Allergies

posted by Mama Hope | February 8th, 2009 in Natural Health

Here’s a blog I recently discovered, Funky Food Allergies, that’s great for parents struggling with food allergies of any kind — wheat, dairy, nuts, soy, all the fun stuff! We recently discovered my oldest’s allergy to milk proteins, and I have to admit that that I never did finish the reading I had planned to discover what was behind it and how we could cope with the “cravings.” Since then, we’ve avoided dairy for the most part, but we cave in for special occasions, partially because we feel for him!

Enter Trisha of Funky Food Allergies, who recently commented here and tempted me to visit her blog. She has some excellent easy to read information on what’s behind allergies, and most especially a variety of recipes and ideas for substitutions.

If you have allergies or food sensitivities in your family or simply suspect them, check out these goodies:

  • Dairy Free Recipes - including hot cocoa, mac n’ “cheese”, and a faux corn bread
  • Ideas for Vitamins - to help out when allergies lead to missing nutrients and sometimes a weakened immune system
  • The Skinny on Cheese - the difference between lactose intolerance and cassein allergy and alternatives that work
  • Wheat Free Pizza Dough - gotta try this for my husband with wheat sensitivities!

Enjoy!

  3. Thanks for the links. One of my children has several sensitivities (we try to avoid but aren’t vigilant), she also has a severe allergy to tree nuts and it is terrifying. She’s stopped breathing twice.
