My New Favorite Place to Meditate
In my quest to find the time daily to clear my head and practice “emptiness” it’s time to give thanks to my parents for creating such a beautiful place and welcoming us to it. My new favorite place to meditate is on their backyard swing with Baby Del in my arms.

The ground is covered in petals now from the fruit trees that have decided this year to bear fruit. Del watches the dogs play and coos in delight. I quiet myself and listen to the sound of the waterfall in the pond my parents created themselves in their miniature suburban backyard.

Dutchess nudges my leg and hopes to play ball. I reply, “Not now, Dutchess, I’m swinging!” But when we’re done I oblige her with a kick, and the ball goes off trailing into the compost pile or into the outskirts of the raspberry branches where she delicately retrieves it.

Meditation can still happen with children! Even five minutes to breathe gets me out of my “head full of doing.” Here’s to taking that time when it finds us, not just when we’re looking for it.
Love,
